What is your response to the COVID-19 public health emergency? How are your classes operating?
In accordance with federal, state and city government mandates and at the advice of the CDC and WHO, we are happily reopened for limited size group and private lessons in an outdoor setting and online. We are in compliance with the following health safety guidelines:http://longbeach.gov/globalassets/health/media-library/documents/diseases-and-condition/information-on/novel-coronavirus/health-orders/appendix-m---gym-and-fitness-center-protocols
For additional information or questions about how we are maintaining safe practices amid the COVID-19 pandemic, please contact us.
What do I wear/ bring to class?
It's important to wear comfortable attire to every class. Jeans, dresses, restrictive or delicate fabrics, revealing clothing and anything that may need adjusting during movement is the wrong idea. Full range of motion is key.
Dance shoes are important to have in EACH class. We can recommend some inexpensive and high quality local vendors for jazz shoes and dance heels, but in the meantime please NO heavy tread (running) shoes--secure, flat-bottom shoes and even socks will work much better.
Hair should always be pulled out of the face, and if at all possible, contact lenses instead of glasses is preferred. You wouldn't want to drop them while turning!
Water and/or towels, stretching gear, and a great attitude is always encouraged!
I've never taken dance before. Will I be able to keep up?
Our classes are filled with students who have never danced before--in fact, well over the majority of our students are non-experienced dancers! Our classes are designed to incorporate all-levels, and each student will have his/her own personal goals and encouragement from others. Technique and individual steps and body movement is broken down repeatedly and as needed--we love questions!
If you feel you want individual attention, take advantage of private lessons with Director/Founder Jose Diaz-- it's the fastest way to catch up on choreography, technique, design solo or partner routines, and to become your personal best!
Is there a dance "season"? When do we perform?
JD Dance performs all year long! There are no "seasons" at JD Dance; we value making dance and movement a part of every day and week, and wouldn't want to slow down for a "down season". We enjoy holiday breaks, but we have way too much fun to stay away from the studio for long! And we're constantly preparing for shows, as well as our own in-house celebrations.
